What-A-Blast! Demo

Demo

HERE IT IS

The WIP, yet playable, WHAT A BLAST!!! hack, by me, Ruberjig.

Remember, this is a Work IN Progress, so some things won't be final, and many things here are NOT ready yet. Also I want to thank those who have helped me for this whole time and the rescources used for this. I can't exactly describe the length, but just explore as much as possible.

Please comment your opinions, and you feedback on how this can be better.

Thank you :)

Dude. You deserve so much attention. This is the shit. Fucking awesome. I'm just sad that you won't get attention just like in previous C3, so here are some screenshots to show people what it looks like - the best parts of your hack in my opinion:

Go download it.
Holy Crup. That Cave Screenshot.

I love your style Ruberjig. It reminds me a lot of Kirby Dreamland 3 and it's style. Gunna play that demo asap!
Let me add that to the list of demos to try out as soon as I get home.
These visuals are outstanding and I can't wait to see if the gameplay can hold up.
I'm impressed (and a little overwhelmed, but mostly impressed) by all the little things you modified from the original game. One of my favorites are those bowl-carrying koopas. The sword is a nice idea for a powerup, too, though the inability to jump while using it makes it slightly unwieldy.

I spotted a few design issues in the handful of levels I played, such as swooper ambushes and muncher overusage, but there was also variety in level themes, which is good. Definitely keep working on this.

By the way, do you have a music credits list? I'd love to know what some of these songs are.

I did feel like I was overusing them, but then I felt that if I took some away, it'd be too easy. Maybe I can make an alternative or something.

Let me give you a tip for my hack I'll be sure to make note of:
The "munchers" (or urchins in this case) with the eyes closed are NOT killable. When they have them closed, they're in self defense, therefore touching them would be a bad idea.

Not at the moment, but i do have plans for that.

I also made a credits list in notepad for everything in general, so I'll make the credits for the sake of it. Hopefully no more issues can get in the way of that.
I'm really loving your art style, everything looks so detailed and well drawen. But the levels also seem to be designed quite nicely,
I'll defenitly try out the demo soon (there is so much awesome stuff to try out :D). Also have you got a work in progress thread,
as I'd like to follow the progress of this hack?

Wow. You know, just as long as there's no graphics or music or sound left in from the original Mario World, legally, you can make money off this.

Nope. There's still the entire engine code, the physics, enemy behaviours, common routines, the spc engine etc.
You really can't make money off of ROM hacking, you have to start from scratch and never make use of any licensed code.
Your layout has been removed.

Typo. Should be were, not we're.

Really great hack though. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I do, I just haven't got around to updating it properly :V

Once I do you'll see it in the Hack Forums.

LOL how did i not see that XD
This looks... surprisingly good, actually. It's quite a neat visual style you've got there.

Definitely worth giving a try.

I really enjoyed what I've played so far (the first world).
There are some gimmicks I really enjoyed, like the barrel cannons or hang glider (even if this level is a bit too hard for me >_<).
All the small details you've added/changed is what makes me love your hack so much.
What-A-Blast is not one of those ordinary romhacks. It is something new entirely. Not only did I have to appreciate the graphical style that I hadn't seen yet in a romhack, no two levels seem to be alike, which doesn't happen often because of how easy it is to make a sister level.

You said it. There were a few flaws I couldn't help but notice while I was playing.
One of the most notorious ones has to be the new status bar. Since it's drawn on a solid color now, it blocks the level. Sometimes, important objects or even the general path are covered by the status bar, so it's really confusing.
The difficulty on some levels is pretty high, granted the gimmicks change the game rules drastically and are easy to learn, but starting with 3 lives is too little unless save points come often enough. Well I think anyway.

What-A-Blast still stands out from everything else most people make these days, even if some of the enemies take the game title too seriously, and blast off all piss and vinegar.
I knew nothing about this other than some screenshoots you threw on IRC every now and then. Definitely lived up to what I was expecting for. Something completely apart from a "Mario" game that so far seems to fit really, really well in a Mario engine. Please do finish this sometime.

By the way, most of the sound effects are a bit off and some could've been a lot louder - this is something to be fixed, right?
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
This is absolutely amazing, please keep up the good work.
Man your hack is great.
The gameplay is good and have a nice level design.
There's only two sugestion that I will like if you make on the next version.

-Add multiple midway points patch
The levels are bigger and some of them harder, sometimes the player will return a lot of screens when die,the MMP will make the things better.

-Fix the dificulty
I'm only poiting this because the first level was very hard to me,but there others after that is easy, try make a dificulty curve.
