Description: This was a hack formerly created by Team Haunted, which existed out of three original members.
Dan, Hadron and CrispyYoshi.

This is the first rendition of The Haunted Desert, the one hack from 2009 that recently received a complete redesign and is now submitted and titled as "The Haunted Desert: REMASTERED".
I decided to insert new music for the main purpose of making this hack playable on all the accurate emulators.
On top of that, I've fixed a few grammar mistakes as my English was absolutely the worst back in the day.

This was an interesting experience after playing through the new remastered version first, both versions are fun to play but if I had to choose one I'd go with the remastered version it just feels better.

I've submitted a version just now that fixes the item box and the 2009 - 2016 from dissapearing, and that's where I'll keep it at. As for the screen flashing, I don't think it's worth porting an old hack from 2009 over to a completely new one. This is supposed to be a version that allows you to play it in the currently recommended and most accurate emulators around.

The item box looks a bit... strange. The "fixme" tag is still here! And when I press start in the title screen, the "2009 - 20" disappears. And lastly, when I play the hack in Snes9x, the "MARIO START !" screen flashes! Try porting everything to a new ROM.

Can't say this wasn't interesting.

The design is alright. It's mainly a puzzle-ish design, where you have to find the way to get out of the room you're in, until you fight Bowser. Some rooms were pretty good designed, others were a little less good. I hated the vertical room where you have to restart if you take the wrong door. It was also a very long section, and having to retry everytime you fail it's a bit annoying. Worth to mention also that part where you have to jump very close to spikes; that section really felt like kaizo to me, and it was impossible to pass without atleast a mushroom. Overall though, it was nice though. Very challengy, since powerups are rare and if you die you have to restart the level all over again.

Aesthetics are more or less good. Some palettes felt off, like the ghost house background, but the rest is okay. The authors used an edited vanilla ghost house FG mainly, together with some other GFX. I don't complain it.

As only technical issue worth of mention, music breaks on accurate emulators.

Overall, a more or less hack. It has some flaws, but it has its own charm. Worth a shot.
