SOPA/PIPA/CISPA

Link Thread Closed
Today Congress is holding a hearing about this dangerous new bill that will heavily crack down on copyright, the Internet Blacklist Bill. More info in this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15757282
I urge you to sign this petition.
If this passes, say goodbye to YouTube, SMWCentral, and a whole lot of other sites with copyrighted content, which is almost all of them.

Goodbye Internet, may you rest in peace. ;-(
That's really sad. We don't want the internet to go away!

Signed.

If you can, and if you live in the U.S. it would also be a good idea to contact Congress by phone and vote against. (202) 224-3121, that is the phone number to call Congress directly to let them know what they can do with their bill.

OH GOD HELP US ALL

This website might explain stuff, but the bill is probably higher than clouds...I WILL SIGN >:(

Let me sum up the bill *clears throat*:

ME WANTS MORE MONEYZ!

Granted they do deserve the money they worked hard on, but the internet without a lot of great websites will dwindle and become a stale Blegh. What is it with the U.S. government and their love of bills lately...
My Youtube Channel. 90,000+ subscribers!

My Steam Profile

Man if they take all the good stuff off the internet... Technically the internet would be a dictatorship. Signing!

I'm going to be very upset if this passes, and I can't watch LPs anymore. In general I'm concerned about this cracking down on our free speech because some people can't behave. They now give piracy this vague definition that could mean trouble if someone sings a copyrighted song. People make it out like piracy is killing businesses, but it's really not. Perhaps they could be even richer if fewer people pirated, but they're certainly not dying. Companies not exercising claims of infringement aren't going to be helped, and will probably be hindered by such censorship. One company I remember was explaining that they'd lose jobs from this. That's exactly what we need in this economy's state...

Hopefully with the opposition of much of the internet and groups like google, facebook, yahoo, and more the bill won't make it, and we can all move on with life. It still concerns me a bit.
I've realized this was outdated.
If this bill passes, companies can block a site if it even contains one image that is copyrighted. Companies can also block/sue a website if it features a fanmade cover of song. Basically all these famous/popular sites will probably be banned:

I don't think this would get very far in Congress, but just in case...

SIGNED

I wouldn't link that on this site, you don't want some of the younger users on here accidentally go on /b/ and watch a guy rip the skin off of his dog, live in a thread, just because you linked this here, right?

Also I was quite serious with my first post in here, bills like this have been proposed many times in the past, and they never got through, and even if this was a standalone case, there are so many big companies against it, and a big part of the population seems to be against it too, there's really no chance for it passing.

I didnt think that it affect the world, and it doesnt, I think...technically people in US won't be able to communicate to people anywhere else, so them out of US is helping us right now. this is what some think.

EDIT: I THINK this also works for phones too.
What the hell... it just rose to 750,000.

That's not true. Covers are protected under copyright law, because copyright only protects implementations, not ideas.

Usually that's the case, but according to this bill they can sue if you even use a sample of their song, sample the melody, or sing copyrighted lyrics. In the same sense of it being illegal to sing "Happy Birthday" on TV.

Here's a viral video.

If this bill passes, and the websites get banned by the US government, that would be the death of the internet. I think President Obama has a Twitter and/or Facebook. If either of these are blocked, he'll say, "Oh, shit. What have you done?"
Your layout has been removed...NOT! :D
THIS
IS
BULLSHIT

1.: Why does USA always make up shit to fuck up society?
2.: Why does it have to be crap that affects the whole world, where USA isn't in charge?
3.: Banning Google? What the hell?

Banning websites because of a copyrighted picture is just like kicking the coach off a football (soccer) team because a player sucks. It doesn't make any sense.
