Yep. Today's the day. Back to the Classics, my vanilla hack, my first complete hack, is officially released. After so much toil and so much of my life wasted, I can say I've completed a hack. So go play it.
Obnoxiously large
DOWNLOAD LINK.
Oh, and here's some screenies I guess, but you guys have seen all these places before(and they're the same as the ones in the hack download page, just less):

Have fun playing. I've worked on this so long and it's finally here.

By the way, I just noticed a single missing ")" in my hack's download page description, and it's really bugging me. Can a staff member fix it? :)

Hopefully I'll have some good feedback to come home to after I go to my friend's house.

I have only seen peeks of this hack here and there, but YES! YES! *Clicks obnoxiously large download link*

DAAAAAAAMN YOU ARTSICLE3 YOU QUICK LITTLE- D:

YES. This was sure fun as hell to help you test, and now it's great to see it finally released. That took quite a while, considering you originally had to delay the release from C3 to give us beta testers more time.

I'm gonna have to play through this again. :3
Good fucking bye.
YESSSSS! Thank you! I can't wait to play! Congratulations on finishing the hack! c:
Let me be one of the people to congratulate you with being finished with such a hack. It's amazing in all aspects, and you clearly put good use to the vanilla graphics.

Now to play the rest of the hack... brb

Now i wonder, am I as good as you? That's a question which will not be answered for a while... I guess?
aran - Graces of Heaven
Downloaded! Will definitely play this tomorrow! :D
I am doing "good" in the hack, at least until the point I am at now. Sending you a PM Spud, because this would be too horrible to show the public.

Never knew you were a fan :3. It's a shame I couldn't contact you, I wanted to use your 02(Kirby 64) port somewhere along the lines. W/e, thanks :D

Thanks for pointing out an issue. That reminds me, my beta-testers did a pretty thorough job, but if anyone finds any issues they feel I should know about, feel free to drop me a PM. :>

Nothing else I can really respond to in this thread except for a big thanks for all these ego-increasing words. Thanks, guys :D

I've been waiting for a really long time to play this. Hell, I remember when it was in the early stages. Good times.

TBH I'm surprised I didn't see the thread sooner.

Very nice hack. Map16 like I've never seen before. Though the levels are a bit to "busy". I like your pallets too. But there's alot of cutoff. I played through world 1-3, and almost every level had some cutoff.
But realy, 'mazin' job
This is a really awesome hack. The palettes, map16, level design, and even music are all SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME.

There's just a few things I want to gripe about. A couple levels are ridiculously hard for any point in the game, not just where they are. The world 2 castle had me tearing my hair out in frustration until I said "screw it" and used savestates, and the secret exit to Fearful Forest required an unreasonable vine-jump. I nearly ran out of time twice trying to make it. What makes me even more confused is that the level right after the w2 castle was easy enough that I didn't die at all during it.

In fact, all the vine-jumps in this hack are pretty ridiculous. I might just be really bad at vine-jumping, but I don't think that is the case.

I guess it's too late to tone down the difficulty, though, seeing as it is released.

Other than that, believe me, this hack is pure gold.

So yeah, I'm not really going to be posting for a while. Not that anyone cares.

Thanks. Yeah, I agree, a lot of levels were much too busy. A lot of minor cutoff is present as well, but that's because I don't care about most of it.

Thanks. Yeah, the hack is pretty unfair at points, in retrospect. I suppose the secret exit of Fearful Forest's difficulty could somehow be toned down. The difficulty curve also isn't that great. I made this hack to be played with save states, which, looking back, was a horrible choice. I didn't want it to be too easy.

It's not too late to tone down the difficulty, though. If I get too many more suggestions for fixes, I'll probably make an updated version which would tone down difficulty and fix a few minor issues.

It's not a whole general difficulty thing, it's just that it spikes sharply in castles and ghost houses that bugs me. If the hack had the difficulty curve of, say Bowser Rampages Again, then that would be totally fine.

You'd have to suck at SMW to need savestates for most of the normal outside levels. Or be like me.
Good fucking bye.
I know, I said it was the castles. But you obviously knew that already.

Anyway, I just beat it and AAARGH THAT BIG BOO. Change it. Please. If not for me, then for all those poor people trying to go through the entire game savestateless.

Well, yeah, the castles were definitely mean... a little too mean, maybe, but at the same time, castles are supposed to be hard.

Lost Lake's secret exit begs to differ. Eh, I suck at SMW anyways.

If I can come up with a creative way to give the player more powerups/some other way(s) of decreasing the difficulty without changing the main aspect of the battle, I will do so.

I'm up to World 6 right now, and I have to say, this hack is awesome. The levels are really fun and creative - I love the different ways you use SMW's graphics, and at some points it doesnt look like it's completely Vanilla, even. Your music choices arent that bad either (I'm playing the custom music version).

While there is cutoff here and there, my only real gripe with this game, like Tox Box said, is the difficulty spikes, but dont get me wrong, I still really enjoy this hack.
Mario's Greatest Adventure! <- My hack thread, where I make magic.
...

I just finished the hack, but I am somewhat disappointed, unfortunately.

The main reason why is the last level. When I played "classics" I never had to abuse savestates/rewinds to finish the last level, as the difficulty is usually FAIR. In this hack, however, the last level is absolutely ridiculous. I felt I was playing a Kaizo Hack.

The classics smooth difficulty curve was lacking here. The game was generally easy until the last level, which is something I did not like with this game. I am happy, however, that you did not use Bowser as the final boss.

Another issue with this hack is cut-off. I am not usually that bothered about cut-off, but in this hack, I could not ignore it. Every level had large amounts of minor cut-off that could easily be fixed by moving the object or a minor graphical edit with YY-CHR.

On the other hand, the level design is mostly good. You can make good vanilla levels, Spud.
The custom music also enhances the Hack's Quality, although some music choices are not the best, in my opinion.

Finally, I liked the Overworld. There was a suitable amount of decoration and some great world themes.

Overall: This hack is OK, but feels rough at parts.
6/10
I personally didn't find the last level too hard. Well, other then the boss. Ugh...
Good fucking bye.
