[Demo]MyL: A Race Against the Clock--SuperMario498

Hack Name: MyL: A Race Against the Clock
Author: SuperMario498
Reasons for Removal:

Floating/Stacked Munchers is grounds for instant removal. Please keep your Munchers (Black Piranha Plants) rooted firmly to the ground.

I actually could have stopped playing there, but what kind of moderator would I be if I weren't a bit more thorough?

Somehow, though you did not change the demo video or title screen, you ended up with major slowdown here. I don't know how you can fix this, but I thought I'd point it out as that's the first time I've seen that happen in anyone's hack.

How friendly of you.

A few issues here. Firstly, I don't like how you changed the ground graphics; it now looks MS Paint'd and lacks the shadowing and dirt effects SMW's original graphics have. Secondly, these bush graphics popped up a lot in your hack. They look like solid ledges, but they aren't, and I thought that odd. My suggestion would be to make them act like rope/cloud tiles (and maybe improve their palette a bit while you're at it).

But with these flowers, you have the opposite issue; the top is solid, whereas it would make more sense for it not to be. Make the flowers act like tile 125 to fix this.

Again, funky Map16 issues. I guess it's fine if the arrow is solid, but it would be more logical if it weren't.

I should also point out that this level was boring and quite short. The level proceeded as follows: run up a wall, jump over a Koopa; run up a wall, jump over a Koopa, run up a. . .you get the picture. Work on varying your level design and making your levels a bit longer.

The background palette is a little too strong; tone down the yellow a bit. Your water graphics are very strange; why is the top transparent and the rest a solid colour? Finally, Mario is standing in front of a Purple Triangle that did not work properly because it is missing the little tile that's supposed to sit under it. You can make a piece of Switch Palace ground tile act like that tile, you know.

Nice way to start off the level; right in front of a Bullet Bill shooter. Give the player time to react to enemies/obstacles.

And then I ran into the Floating Munchers and stopped playing because I had enough reasons to remove the hack.

Verdict: please work on your level design and graphical/Map16 issues. Removing the Floating Munchers is key, as is working on level design. Fix the aforementioned problems, as well as those you find in your other levels, and we'll see how things go.
