Vanilla Level Design 2010: Results

Can't say I'm not disappointed with myself, nor can I say I'm surprised. I hate having good gimmick ideas without being able to implement them very well, which comes out in every level I make. Then again, I've only made 5 levels in my entire hacking career, so I suppose I shouldn't expect anything more. Good job Lynnes, I had a feeling you were going to win.

Obviously you did SOMETHING outside of Lunar Magic

Aside from a massive amount of planning, no. As stated before, Lunar Magic was the only program I used to edit the ROM I submitted. How dare you slander me like that? I demand a higher score as compensation!

Not sure what kind of point you're trying to prove by this

The point is that doing stuff like this using nothing but Lunar Magic is theoretically possible.

Such a shame you didn't also include random ? blocks or munchers

In normal circumstances, I would have added some variety. However, due to the complexity of the project, I had to keep everything as simple as possible.

about what
I think he thinks you were the mystery judge, but I could be wrong.

...which is kind of baffling considering the links to the four judges are literally right on the first page.

Congratulations, CCF9, on 63rd place (you beat SmallHacker)! lol.
And TiersWTF at about 73rd. My team is win.

Anybody know when the Chocolate contest starts?

Who knows when I'll have
something to put here.

Credits go to Counterfeit for the bitchin' post layout.

If there is one this time around, it won't be until after the summer.

Are you kidding me? 588 bytes. Sorry, but even LM ASM hacks takes more space. All levels in LM looks like original levels, and probably you made ASM to make cements blocks appear randomly (however, I could name that good algoritm, but it's boring)... You didn't even used Lunar Magic!!!

But maybe if I will disassembly that... since you didn't used LM I'm could find algoritm...
Congratulations to those who won, you deserved it. But, when you informed me of a bad patch, I sent FirePheonix a new version right away! Oh well, those who won probably had ultimately better levels anyway.

Umm... yes he did... it's not even that hard to do. Level data is stored exactly the same as any other code, so if you run your code through level data, it will be just like regular code. Basically, he designed a level and saved it over the map16 routine. When the PC (program counter) goes through that part of the code, it runs it as the code that you see. Therefore, it's easily possible using only LM (long as it's an old version...)
Heh, to tell you the truth, I'm really surprised. I'm not being to modest about my level, but I seriously thought it lacked in several areas, like in the level design category. Anyway, all I can do is thank Smwc, because if I didn't get so much positive feedback, I would've never finished it. Also, everyone else did an excellent job, I'm going to play some of the higher-placing levels I didn't play yet. So yeah, thanks all :D
Congratulations to all who won, including those that received the honourable mentions.

As for myself, 54th, sweet. I thought I did pretty well considering the fact that it was my first contest. From this I definitely gained some experience, and have learned some new things. Overall, I had fun and that is all that matters.

First, congradulations to Lynnes, superwiidude, Aqualakitu, and Ddoom10 for your victory. From what I saw, it's well-earned. Also, thanks to the judges for rating our levels and the comments, it's been good to read them and understand why my level stands where it does, which seems pretty clear to me now.

Oh, and Raocow, it looks like I already have a 72-level headstart, you sure you want to let me go longer? At this rate I might finish before you start...

As an aside, since everyone who participated will probably visit this thread once, I am running through all the hacks, in order that they were submitted (unless I specifically get a request to do a specific level next) and currently have up to level 72 uploaded. My LPs aren't as good as raocow's, but for those who are impatient, there is a link in my signature.

This was my first contest also, and I finished slightly higher that you did. Still, good job.

Wow, I'm in 16th place? Yay. #w{:>}
I'm proud at myself. #w{=3}

Also congrats Lynnes! You earned it. #w{=D}
Nothing to put here at the time being.
Thanks to Tom Servo for the awesome new layout!
Wow, 6th place.
I'm satisfied with that.
In a highly competitive contest like this, I'm glad not to be last. B)
Well, 6th place isn't bad at all. Congrats to all the winners, and I can't wait to see anybody's video playthroughs.

Good job, guys.
Trophies have been awarded. Let me know if I've made a mistake.
Congratulations to everybody who won, especially Lynnes! That was one great level there, you really deserved first place.

... I'm not at all surprised how low DMGD's level got. You'd think somebody would be a lot smarter then that, seriously.

Can't wait for raocow's videos. Hurry up with ASMT, man!
Good fucking bye.

Thank you. However and not to be nit picky, when I said 54th, I meant of all contestants, meaning of all 124 people. In terms of rank placement (1st, 2nd etc.) I actually tied with --SMWexpert-- and finished 36th. But, meh it doesn't really make a difference.
