Welcome to SMWCentral. The "bad checksum" means that something has been changed in the rom and it will not do anything. that's all it means.

As for your question. Do you have a SMW Rom (Do not say "Where can i find a rom" it's been asked alot and everyone will say "Google it")?

If it isn't the above the are you patching it correctly (There's 2 way's of patching a IPS File)?

so i got a file thats .ips, and i got the lunar ips patcher. I applied the ips patch to a verified (by this site) clean ROM of SMW. I played the rom, and it wasn't changed. I tried it with a few others, and even though it said "the patch has been applied successfully" or something like that, the file was still unaffected. Am i doing anything wrong?
Are you just seeing the overworld and stuff? Because most people don't change the overworld or the intro message OR the intro lvl/title sequence. Just try a level and see if its changed.
Woot, just got it to work. I had been doing it in my program files folder, where i'm not allowed to change anything without administrator permission. i moved it to another place, patched it and it worked. Thanks for the help guys! xD

I completely agree, I've also said this before (in this thread, even!). Which is also why I like puzzle hacks the most, although I'm currently using very odd glitches as solutions... most people won't know what to do (item abuse style, but a bit more easy).

But there's plenty of original and creative content being released in this thread, it'll take a while before shell jumps really are spammed all the way.
HuFlungDu and JeRRy86 are scaring me though... I hope that is not the general direction Kaizo hacks are going (I like your hacks, but more than one or two of this style really aren't wished for)

I didn't actually go for good kaizo, but i went for really hard, yet still has some fun factor. THAT was what i go for in my hack. Although the fun factor isn't so high, some parts are really fun to do, in my opinion. I also went for finding out new tricks for kaizo hacks.
And in my opinion, kaizo hacks need more puzzles, originality, And more than half of the hacks does that well here.
And also, i had this hack idea a looong time ago, back when i was a really bad SMW player.
Also, my hack has no key jumps, because that trick is just plain stupid. With shell jumps are many original places where you can put it, yet not used. Like i did in my new level 2(chocolate raiiiinnn level)

Well, mapsking, you asked me to break your level, so I did. I broke it thrice (edit: four times) (unless any of this was intended)

1) At the start, there is this horrible jump with midpoint bar shaped munchers and 7 invisible coin blocks. If you hit the second top right invisible coin block (... yeah... that one. The right stack, second top one) and land back you can use it as a platform to spinjump off of to make that jump a bit easier. Still hard though...
Edit: this is the bottom of screen 0A-0B

2) Just a bit before that there is this huuuge gap where the moving brown blocks take a turn back and forth, this can be skipped by wasting some time spinjumping on those ball-n-chains in the gap. I'm not sure if it is possible to get to that mushroom up there if you take this path, and I'm not sure if this is possible at all either.

3) Just after the POW door there are two ball-n-chains and a grinder, and a floating 'island' with a spike in it, made of blocks mario can pass through. Rather than making the hard jump off of the right ball-n-chain onto the grinder you can go below the munchers at your right and continuously spinjump off of the ball-n-chain through this 'island', allowing you to skip a small section. Also: what is the function of the left ball-n-chain?

4) The top sections of screens 0B and 0C can be skipped by spinjumping on ball-n-chains. It seems impossible to do it otherwise, but it became so easy I thought it'd be wise to put this in



So far I only got to the moving turn block right after this spike (screen 10), so if the level can be broken at any other point I haven't gotten there yet. You'll hear more from me in about a week I guess, I'm going to be a bit busy...

In my opinion, you shouldn't try to make a compilation of hacks including stuff copied directly from the original Kaizo and Kaizo 2. If the author of these hacks somehow discovers this, he might try to get us, and we can't ask for his permission because we don't even know who he could be (aside from a guy named T. Takemoto).

Can't do any worse though.

It might be a good idea to translate it though.
I thought there already was a translated version of Kaizo... if not, you could just substitute all message boxes with munchers. That would work well :P

But yeah, you really shouldn't make a Kaizo based Kaizo hack. Kaizo would eventually find out, and sue SMWCentral. Either that, or make more hacks... Either way, the results are torture to mankind.

Which style is this? Are you talking about shell jumps again? If you are, then I will tell you that that is my only level that will even have shell jumps, all the other levels will be much different. For instance, the next level I'm working on places you as a rocket ship flying through a level dodging objects. Then you run out of fuel. If you hit any object, you explode. Yeah, that's going to be fun :)
