RLM v1.3

Link Thread Closed
Greetings!

I've updated RLM today to version 1.3. New in this release:
v1.3 (12-26-09):
* Fixed yet another last-known-problem with (what I believe is) "Super ExGFX".
* Support for drag-n-drop (see "Using RLM").
* Readme cleanup.

Downloads
May I ask what it is? xD
Yes, of course! (My mistake...)

From the wiki: RLM is a program designed to "unprotect" Super Mario World ROM hacks that were "protected" with the Lunar Magic level editor. RLM stands for "Recover Lunar Magic".
Ah, cool cool.

I'm always pro-open source when it comes to non-profit stuff like this. I doubt I'll use it but :)
If this really works, then it's nice to see hack locking rendered useless again. Nice.

For myself, it would be handy to test certain patches I make on existing SMW hacks while still being able to easily change stuff in LM. Was a minor inconvenience in VRAM patch.
The problem is, doesn't RLM work only on hacks that are 2 MB or less? Most full hacks are 4 MB.

Well, I'm glad to see an update of this, nevertheless. I could say the same thing that smkdan has always said about locking hacks, and in just as sarcastic a tone. By the way, are we supposed to add .txt to all of those unspecified files in the .zip folder?

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.

Good question; provide an example hack (or two) that exhibit such problems with RLM, and I'll see what I can do about fixing it! (I have a bug tracker for this sort of thing; no one even knows it exists.)

I'm sure. I've made my opinion on the idea pretty clear in the README and on forum posts over the years.

Not necessarily. I do all of my development on UNIX-like operating systems, where file extensions are mostly optional. Windows users can either open the files from a text editor's "open" menu option, or add a .txt extension. Up to you.
Oh, nice to see an update on this.

I tested it and it seems to be much better, though there's still some errors with it, like this.

That was tested on SMW2+3 (the only hacked ROM I knew would render garbage).
Thanks, Iceguy. I haven't looked at that one yet. I don't know if it's a bug in RLM (should be supported but isn't) or if it's a "custom" kind of protection (only exists in this particular hack). In the case that it's a real bug, I will fix it for the next version.

I won't be supporting "custom" protections in RLM; this program is a general purpose tool, kind of like the "lock feature" in Lunar Magic is a general purpose tool. If LM didn't lock it, RLM won't unlock it. Simple, I think.

But I will definitely be fixing bugs as they are reported. So, I'm asking for your help! Anyone who finds a locked SMW hack that has problems after unlocking with RLM v1.3, please post about it here! Preferably with screen shots or just as much information as you can provide. Some examples of problems I expect to see:

* Hack doesn't work correctly in an emulator (crashes, glitches, minor or major differences compared to the locked version).
* Hack doesn't open correctly in Lunar Magic (graphics or level corruption, error messages, other unexpected strange things).

Thank you to everyone who wants to get involved with this project!
I do know with the older version of RLM that if you tried to unlock a hack made with a Japanese rom you would 99% of the time get garbage.
Does Lunar Magic support the Japanese ROM? I'm guessing it does, I just haven't seen any hacks!
Lunar Magic does support Japanese roms.
when i unlocked Luigi's Adventure OSE V1.3 there was nothing wrong except for some of the levels showing up as Iceguy put in the picure but when i tried to play the unlocked version it just does the Logo then black screen for the whole time so maybe thats a bug or something. and as boredman says LM does support Jap Roms since i opened one up in LM before and nothing was wrong

Hacks I Support:

Vip mario wall mix or wetever its calld dose not workd with rlm.

It basicly just frezez at the title screen after you unlock it.

Also When you look at the levels in lm thay all have level errors (most) and garbedge tiles every where.

EDIT. I did this on the preveuse realease of rlm (the version found on this sites tools section). But I would gusse that the same thing happens on the new vershion.

Actually, this is only the case for Mix 2 and Mix 4. I believe because both of these were 3MB as opposed to 2MB like Mix 1 and Mix 3 (coming back to the belief that RLM only works on ROMs 2MB or less). However, I did try running Mix 2 through the new 1.3 version of RLM and it still showcases garbage in LM from Levels 080-1FF (Iceguy's pic of SMW2+3 pretty much sums up the garbage seen). I haven't tried Mix 4 again with 1.3, but I'm sure it will produce the same results. Can't add anything concerning how it plays in an emulator as I always just play the original downloaded ips only.
Ahhh, thanks for the reports!

I found the bug causing corrupted stages in large hacks. You can get version 1.4 beta at the same download link. Keep in mind, this is a beta version (only a couple of lines changed) and not the official 1.4 release. I'm releasing it here to help fix any other remaining bugs.

Fixed in 1.4 beta:
* SMW2+3: The Essence Star: Final Version
* Luigi's Adventure OSE V1.3
* VIP and Wall Mix 4

I still haven't seen any Japanese hacks (and don't know where to find any). Could someone point me in the right direction? I want to verify that they work in 1.3 or 1.4 beta. Thanks!
Just posting to say it's working great here, I can now load a set of 3 other hacks which were giving fatal errors in level data without seemingly no issue at all. Nice work.
That sounds promising. Still no word on Japanese hacks?
I locked and the unlocked Kaizo mario seeing as that was the only Japanese rom I had on hand. This time there were no messed up graphics for it.
