Studio Ghibli films

Dunno how many people have heard of them, but they're a company that produces many famous anime films, of which the most successful are directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Several of them have been localized and released in the U.S. by Disney, such as Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and most recently, Ponyo. I've seen a few of these, and just got back from watching Ponyo in the theater earlier today.

Needless to say, I always find myself impressed with his art style, and it's amazing how just about everything is done by hand. I thought the voice acting was quite good as well. I didn't find it as strong as some of his other movies though, partially because it was geared more toward kids and thus a lot of his messages felt lost or not as profound as they should've been. Still, I think the movie's certainly worth checking out: it's far, far better than the bulk of animated films released these days, and displays a rare sort of magic that can be found in movies such as Up as well.

EDIT: moved to the Anime and Manga forum.
I've seen a few, namely Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle. They were quite good indeed, but I found the plots a bit puzzling. Like, well, the plots were alright, but a lot of weird stuff happens.
Some of the plots are indeed lost in translation, because many lines are wasted in the dubs explaining parts of Japanese culture for the American audience. Anyways, Spirited Away is my personal favorite, and I'm planning on seeing Ponyo with my little brother and sister (who I know will enjoy it, because she's obsessed with the Little Mermaid but still loves anime movies as well).
I've seen Spirited Away, and it's really good. I've been wanting to go see Ponyo lately, but there are no theaters where I live. sucks for me :(
Actually...

I happen to own nearly all of the Ghibli films on DVD. I have been a fan of their work for years now. My favorite Ghibli movies are Nausica, of the Valley of the Wind and Castle in the Sky

I have watched Ghibli movies or a very long time actually. I saw a really old one called My Neighbor Totoro when I was a kid, because we rented it on VHS from a local video store because it looked interesting. Ever since then, I've seen all kinds of movies from them, from Grave of the Fireflies (oh gosh that movie was heart wrenching) to Spirited Away. I might mention that each movie plays by its own rules. Some are cutesy and lighthearted while others can have very serious plots. Regardless though, each movie seems to execute its intended feel perfectly, and I have yet to watch a Ghibli movie I don't like.

On a final note, I saw Ponyo just a few days ago. As always, the art style was interesting and unique, and the story was cute and, well, odd. The characters were intriguing, and there were lots of funny moments and dialogue. All in all, another great Ghibli film.

I don't own one single Studio Ghibli Film, Sadly. The very first one I watched was spirited away, then Howl's Moving castle, and finnaly, Castle in the Sky. Haven't seen any other films, sorry to say.

I find that my peers, who don't even like anime and Manga, love the films, because of the character development, the values and lessons, and because the plot doesn't usually involve some spikey-haird teen saving the world with a large sword. :P

When I was younger, I did in fact watch a film by this company - I’m not sure if anyone else here has heard of this film, however it was called "Studio Ghibli - The Cat Returns." It was a very moving film for me, and also very strange one… at the time I had never heard of Japanese anime, cat girls, or anything in relation to that genre. In addition - being young at the time, I only had watched cartoons which contained a lot of action and fighting; this however was very mysterious, enchanting, and was actually one of the first films I had ever watched that sprung off some deep emotions in me. Sadly to say though, that was the only film I have ever watched from this company… I did promise to watch more shortly after, however I had no idea were on Earth to find these video's. (Though being much older, I now know about torrents, and I’m going to watch a few more very soon…)
Studio Ghibli is overrated. There movies are good, but I don't know why, I just don't enjoy them as much as some others...

Are you kidding? Studio Ghibli movies are the only anime I even watch. Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, The Cat Returns...yeah, I thought they were pretty good. (Really weird, but good.) The first one I ever saw was "My Neighbor Totoro." I haven't seen Princess Mononoke yet, although I want to. Most of the rest of my family just watched it recently, too, so it stinks that I missed my chance.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I watched Spirited Away and parts of some other movies from them. Awesome stuff! I also like the Professor Layton games, which they did the animations for. Currently I think they're working on a Professor Layton movie, which looks awesome.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I love Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro, for its beautiful forests, summer days, and music. It is my favorite movie.
