Music Request/List Thread (See new thread)

W/E your just a little shit who thinks he can do anything. SNN, Andres, FPI and whoever else converts the songs, would say they want permission, and need to be credited for use. Otherwise the don't need to, but it would be nice for them to. Also what would you report us for huh? You little cry baby bitch, all we are doing is changing them into txt files and puting them into games. If VGmusic didn't want people to do anything to their songs, they would have made the SUPER clear to the public. Also most would not even let the midis be downloadable. So stop trying to act like your 'it' here, because in this community we support eachother and know what our rights are. Even if we have lack or respect for another member.
Aiyo, WTH are you talking about? Cheeseum?
and send that in angry PM form please, delete
your post from here.
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...

Again, the VGMusic FAQ suggests it.

God damn, lighten the hell up, would you? I said I could report you very easily if I wanted to. I don't really even care enough to do that, though it would be appreciative if the original authors were sited by the txts/spcs.

You completely misunderstood me. I didn't say "People don't want their midis used for other purposes". I'm saying to give credit.

He's talking to Blue Warrior. Not me. :P
I would put that in a PM too.

Anyway... back to Music Hacking yes?
Sorry >_>
But still they suggest</span></b> it.. So that kind of gives you a choice. Whats the point of reporting me anyway? It's not like i even converted a song or anything..

Cheesum that is good for a first song. ^_^ hahah percussion is hard huh?

Well, all I'm getting at is that it's common courtesy. I'm not going to tattle just because of it, because again, I don't really care to. :P

Er, well, I meant the people that WERE converting. :P

In other news, I'm almost done making my first spc! I'll upload it in a short while when I'm done with it.

Since the VGMusic midis are being strained through an entirely different set of instruments in the SMW ROM, doesn't that make them significantly different from the source material?

Do you guys realize that we are talking about the proper ethical (not legal) ownership status of SMW-instrument-compatible versions of the freely-made-available-for-download-and-personal-use/still-unauthorized transcriptions of legally copyrighted music from legally copyrighted video games? Didn't the makers of these midis make them and share them for others to enjoy in a variety of ways?

I guess I had better make sure to credit "Sen" from VGMusic.com just in case he ever plays my SMW hack and manages to recognize his several-year-old transcription of "Chill" from the 1990 NES game Dr. Mario, after it has been filtered through SMW's instrument palette. No, I shouldn't credit Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka - I should make sure "Sen" gets credit where credit is due.

In a free internet, credit is always appreciated but can never be guaranteed. If the people on VGMusic don't like it, they should close the site to outsiders.

[/soapbox]

That being said, I do understand the desire of people to receive credit where credit is due, even if it is for unauthorized work done based primarily off the copyrighted work of another person. For instance, it would upset me if my hack was used as a base by another person. At the same time, though, that is just one of the dangers of making your work available online. This site and VGMusic couldn't exist if it weren't for the free exchange of information. On a project like the games made here, it would be impossible to properly credit everyone who really had a hand in the hack - from the original makers of the game, musical composers, VG transcribers, SNN, people here on forums who gave advice, ExGFX rippers, Custom Sprite authors, patch-makers, etc. to the person who actually did most of the editing.

This is all just for fun, for the amusement of a few hundred people with a very specific interest. I think we all need to lighten up.

---

On to other business...

Hey SNN - What's with all the Sonic 2 music but no Sky Chase Zone or Wing Fortress Zone? They are two of the best songs in the game. These aren't requests so much as suggestions, just in case you are just cruising through the Sonic 2 music for personal fun.

[?] Miscellaneous Helpful Hints
If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.

Since when was I making a big deal out of it? Aiyo was the one going all tempest in a teapot on me. o_O

As for you soapbox comment, granted, it's true that credit can't be guaranteed. I was just recommending it, because, generally, it's a good idea to keep sequencers from waltzing, getting pissed off, and telling others to get pissed off because their midis were used without permission or credit. Again, though, I'm not trying to freak out over it or anything.

EDIT: Finished the SPC! It's supposed to be for a hack I'll bluntly call Blue's Fun Pack. No actual progress on it, though. :P
spc / mid

I thought about crediting and such as well, but overall I decided not to do it, because I mean one of the purpose of VGMusic IS actually to put the MIdis up in some fancreationgames and not just listening to it? Otherwise it would have really stated more clearly. And besides if someone don't want his work used (or in that case converted to something totally different) why the hell uploadng to a site like VGMusic. In addition, I have to admit, most of the time I really don't have a slightest idea who've created the Midi I'm using. Not all Midis on VGMusic are generally credited, and many of the Midis I've did so far I've had on my harddrive a very long time, so I don't have that much of a clue which "version" this would be and If I'd have to choose one I always choose the midi which stays as truly to the original. For example if there's something really original mixed to the Midi, like one of the many remixes, I would definetely give credit, at least for that, but that haven't occured yet.
Also, I can't see that much sense crediting the Midi-creators any way, what would they gain from it? It would only make sense if EVERYONE who's using the txt-conversations in their hack would start giving credit to all these people somewhere in the hack's credits or whatever. And besides... there's hardly a Midi on VGMusic which states who's the one who composed the original game music track in the first place.

Aiyo, the flaming was unneeded .. but Blue Warrior, I already explained about citations. I want no more unneeded flaming/conversation of stuff already answered, or else I'll start killing peoples posts. This may be a pretty relaxing thread, but don't make me make it hell for you guys.

I could report you guys

Go for it - then I'll have to report everyone who has used my creations of recreations because they didn't ask for permission.

Now, back on topic...

Cheesum: Good for a first attempt. I listened to that MIDI the day after it came out, and it never really sounded like the song from SPM, but you matched the MIDI, which is great. I'll put it up for those who want it.

andy: I'm getting there, heh. I'm trying to nail as many Sonic songs as possible, so those won't be far away.

I have a request. I need the song from Kirby 64-the final boss. I have some of the work done already here. The file still needs to be cut down to 8 channels, and there is a lot of grouping together that still needs to be done. Unfortunately, I'm still a bit illiterate when it comes to creating music.....:P
Layout by LDA during C3.
thanks SNN, and can we all just submit all these? and would we put the SPC's with them?
I say, credit if you want to but it doesn't matter.

I am happy today! My request and the music section, both in one day!
Your layout has been removed.
It's great to finally see the custom music section up! If it's all right, I would like the submit the txt's myself, instead of having someone do it for me.
Now that I am moderating the music, here are the rules for uploading custom music:

1) ZIP file or death.
2) TEST YOUR SONG BEFORE YOU UPLOAD IT! I will be going through songs, and if I notice octave errors, the song will be instantly rejected.
3) Make sure the SPC works.

That's all. Enjoy.
Nobody upload my Forest theme, I'm going to add loops and get better instruments. :O
I was just about to ask that!

Also, I think that:
-Each person should submit their own music, unless you didn't get it from this site.
-This thread needs a restart as soon as all its music is submitted.
Your layout has been removed.
Here is the plan - I mentioned one of these in the announcements:

-Music should be submitted by the own author, if possible. For example, I don't want people submitting my stuff - mainly to prevent confusion. If it's an author that doesn't post here, that's fine.
-SIGN YOUR SONGS

And yes, when all the music is moved, I am going to close this thread and create a new one purely for requests, NOT for links.
I also noticed that someone submitted Marx's battle theme by Carol. Doesn't Carol not want his work redistributed? <.<
