Super Luigi: The Big Challenge

Standard

[Udated 10-02-09]

Well, here it is: the "official" thread about our main hacking-project.

Title Screen

Plot

It's just another day in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Luigi is peacefully a sleep in his bed, when suddenly a Toad is screaming loud and wakes Luigi:
"Luigi! Come quickly. The princess desperately needs you!"

Luigi follows Toad and enters a pipe, which leads to Peach Castle.
After a little walk through the castle, Luigi finds Peach and starts a conversation:

Peach: "Good to see you Luigi. We've got a huge problem: Mario's missing"!
Luigi: "Mama Mia"!
Peach: "I've heard Bowser has kipnapped him and now he's in another world.
Hurry, you must save him!"
Lugi: "Okidoki"

*Grumble...Grumble*
Suddenly Bowser falls through the ceiling and kicks Luigi into a cannon.
BAAMM! Luigi was launched to a far unknown place...

Obviously I'm not going to reveal the whole plot, since you can expect some Mario&Luigi-styled twists etc.

General Info

This hack will contain:
- (selfdrawn) ExGFX
- custom music
- 10 worlds
- Luigi ^^
- ASM "light" (sprites, blocks etc.)

Overworld
Here's a screenshot with the complete main overworld.

Level Info

World 1: Grass

ToadTown:
This is the place you landed, a little town in the middle of a brand new world. And what's a town without a large sewer-system?

Shroomy Hills:
After leaving ToadTown, Luigi travels to a small area named "Shroomy Hills".
Here he'll start his real adventure...

Southern Plains:
Level 2, a few plains south of Shroomy Hills.

Craggy Shore:
That's unexecpted: a beach-level in a grass world? Oh well, welcome to Craggy Shore:

Creepy Cavern:
After a sunny beach, Luigi finds himself in this dark maze deep inside the caverns. Hopefully he can find the exit...

For more screenshot from these levels, you can visit this old C3-thread.

Also this thread will be updated when we've got new stuff to show...
This looks GREAT,I just love a SMW hack useing Luigi as a star character. He's under rated...

Now to the hack, this looks great. And the colors are great as well.A really clean Title screen, and a cool looking sewer stage (though it's kinda wierd that the wayer is shinny though...shouldn't it be a darker or maybe a greener color maybe useing wavy lines?)

Anyway I'm looking forward to this one.
If anyone needs help with custom Character GFX,PM me.
<Note> You will have to have a progress thread in order for me to work on GFX for you.No random requests.

Thanks for the comment.
I'll change the pallete of the water in the sewer. (I can't really use the normal water, because the waterfall would get cut of.)

Also, I've got a little question for you guys:

How does this foreground look?:

I've drawn this for Shroomy Hills.
(Because I'm planning to use selfdrawn graphics almost everywhere.)
Wow, this looks GREAT! The plot is very nice, it's somewhat new, and i like it. the level design looks great. And in that newest screenie, i really hope you're not planning on using that SMW BG, it dosen't mix well with the rest of the Graphics. but anyways, Keep it up!
<TLMB> I use YY-CHR to edit DNA
I'm really liking the look of these shroomy graphics you drew there - their "graffiti" look really caught my attention, and they fit perfectly within the environment you created for the "Shroomy Hills" level.

In all honestly, I'm loving what I have been seeing in this thread - your graphics, yet simple, are really polished and well-made, and they all fit with each other perfectly. Your levels look really well-done, as well as it looks like they feature plenty of ulinearity within them. On top of that, I'm surprised on how well they fit with your overworld.

Keep up the great work, I'll definitely keep an eye out of this project! :O
This looks quite well done.
I especially like the OW.
IRC Quotes (March 20th update!)

@ Leafeon:
Don't worry, it's only a test-level to show the foreground. (In fact, it isn't even the same hack.)

@ Broozer:
Thanks for your compliments,
I've been practicing with drawing a lot lately, so it's good to know it wasn't for nothing...

@ Kristian:
Thanks :)
I meant to comment on this earlier - this is looking really good so far. My only suggestion would be to round the bottoms of these hills since ending with a straight edge looks strange. Other than that, this all looks great. Keep up the good work!

[?] Miscellaneous Helpful Hints
If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
Loks really great. The GFX looks GREAT. So does the level design. I've always liked hacks starring Luigi.
@ Andy_k_250: Thanks for the tip, I'll change it as soon as I'm going to replace the graphics.

@Werewolf: Thanks.

As a little update, here are some screenshots from Mario/Luigi's house at the beginning of the game:

What's Mario doing on Luigi's room? :O

This is the living room, the door on the right leads to the garden.

It doesn't look too repetitive, or does it?

Looks awesome, I like the music in the little bonus area on the rocky plains level. (the area with lots of coins and a spring)

Hope to see more.
Mario's house looks great. But I think it needs a bit of a paint job (Too much brown right now). Unless it's intended to look like a log cabin.
@ SteJmatty: Thanks :)

@ Werewolf: I agree, I think I'll redrawn Mario's house later and use this one in villages.

It's been a very long time since the last update, because I was busy with other stuff.
But here are a few screenshots of Castle #1

Castle #1:

Boss: Bowser Jr.

How does it look?

i really wanna beta test this;it looks marvelous.
Today we've finally finished world 1, which means we're are now officially looking for beta-testers.
If you'd like to beta test, just leave a comment or send me a PM. After that I'll send you the hack as soon as possible.

@ GoldYoshiEgg: Well, you've probably already read the thing above, so you know what to expect...

If you still need betas id love to try it
SH v2

I'll beta test, this hack looks great anyway. :3
I really like the GFX in the castle, it looks very nice. I also really like the idea for Bowser Jr. as a boss. ;3

Whoa! The OW is awesome, Custom Boss and very nice ExGFX!
I'd love to Beta-Test this!
Hmmmmm.....very interesting. A good looking hack starring.....Luigi! It's about time, keep it up. I'm now pumped up even more, thanks...:). And by the way, good use of the DKC arrows.
