There are too many random one question threads in this forum, so I decided to make this thread. If you have any questions about general hacking of other games, such as Mario, Metroid, Sonic, Earthbound, etc. that ISN'T Super Mario World, you may ask them here.

How do I change backgrounds for battles in Earthbound?
I've seen vids showing edited bg's, but I cannot find the function in pk hack.

Anyway, can someone help me out? When I try to patch a hack for Earthbound, it turns out all scrambled, can someone tell me what is wrong? Is it a bad dump of the rom? How do I fix this?
Just want to mention that I'm probably one of the most knowledgeable people on this board on Super Metroid so don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions about SMILE.

How do you connect new doors with each other? Also, how do you edit the tilesets for each area?
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...

Which version of the Pokemon FireRed rom is necessary for hacking? All the versions I've tried do not work with half of the tools included with Elitemap, so I'm assuming that a specific version is necessary. If those tools are only supposed to work with R/S, then what version of Ruby do I need (it doesn't work with my Ruby rom either)? I don't want a link, just the name of the version (like how YI hacks only work with the 1.0 version).

Also, ironic that the person with the Oddish avatar is asking for EB help and I'm asking for Pokemon help?

if using map editor 4:
double click door square thing
click "edit destination"
click"seek"
Find the location you want ness to appear at(usually about two small spaces away from the door you want him to come out of).Click it.

This may not be the place for this sort of thing, but...
Here's a fact about Metroid (yes, the NES one) editing: using object 4 for doors overrides the scrolling change that Object 3 does, and allows you to make horizontal corridors link up with each other directly without any problems.

Try using Advance Map.

Advance Map and other tools for Pokemon FireRed tools can be found at Whack-A-Hack, the SMWC for Pokemon hacking.

But, I suggest going here to ask further questions on Pokemon hacking. Also, this site has useful information, and tools. Look in the Emulation forum at that site to find the ROM hacking stuff.
Is there any hacks for the snes Super Punch Out? Also I want to try my hand at a nes Punch Out hack I wanted to know a good program to help with that?
From a quick look on Google, there don't seem to be any Super Punch Out hacks, but there are quite a few for NES Punch Out. Whether or not they're any good remains to be seen. As for making your own Punch Out hack, I don't think there's an actual program, but if you're thinking of making a graphics hack, that's as simple as opening the rom in a graphics editor like YY-CHR and editing it that way. Anything else requires knowledge of the rom and a hex editor.
Thanks for the info, I didn't think there was one but it doesn't hurt to ask because I didn't know about the quality of work people here do for the smw mods. Just a few more questions do people have good mods for Super Mario 64, I keep hearing about them on youtube but can't seem to find any online? With Punch out I want to edit the sprites and change how they fight if I can. Again thank you for your help.
I'm not really sure about any SM64 mods that have been released. As for your Punch Out questins, the sprites can be changed asa I said, with YY-CHR and the behavior by finding their routines and rewriting their code.
Toad's Tool is a mod for SM64...
Well, I know that. I'm just not sure about the actual mods that people have made and released. SM64 hacking isn't something I really keep up with.
I have a title.wad of a game I would like to try out is there a way to change back into a rom my n64 emulator can read?

Never mind I have figured out how to do it.
I downloaded toad's tool 64 and I was just wondering how to place items in levels? I did it once by banging my keyboard, but I haven't been able to do it again.

You don't place objects, you change the existing ones into other things.
