Setting the Level Mode to Kamek's Room pretty much pre-determines everything for you. I've found a matching Sprite Set, which is Sprite Set 0x79 at (headered PC) 0x350F: [67 3C 55 1A 1A 29]. Now, one might be tempted to think, that this Sprite Set Index is referenced when a Level is Kamek's Room, but that is not the case; I've tried and edited it and nothing glitched. I assume the Sprite Tileset is hardcoded and loaded differently from a normal Sprite Tileset.

Darn#ab{:(} I had hoped to use it in 2-8 with flower pots and Boos but I guess that idea will have to go, just like many others...

So what are all the sprites which can be used in Kamek's Room? I've seen Mildes, Fangs, and Shy Guys but I don't know of any others. Will Tap-Taps or Piranha Plants work since they're normally together?
I wonder why Romi didn't add a custom palette editor for YI, just like for SMW. Custom palettes would be great. Also I was just experimenting with YI hacking a month ago.

My Discord server. It has a lot of archived ASM stuff, so check that out!

Is everyone aware of a little bug regarding the Milde?

Maybe it's just me but as you all know there are two sprite options for Marching Milde:

'Milde' & 'Marching Milde'

I attempted to insert Marching Milde and it crashed rom when I loaded it into snes9x, and the sprite was harmless and passable.

Is this a bug or just a something everyone is aware of an has learned to ignore by now?

PS: Why is this thread dead? LIVE DAMN YOU!

The Milde sprite is the regular enemy. The Marching Milde sprite is the boss, and inserting bosses into regular levels generally causes glitches.
I never knew there was difference. #smw{O_O}

Also, this thread is dead because Romi is vanished since years. Golden Egg isn't open source either (Raidenthequick technically decompiled the code, but it's REALLY a mess to work with) and nobody else is working with it. So there is no actual reason to this thread being relevant anymore.

You can't say things like that! The threads have ears. >_>

I mean, I would think if anyone wants Golden Egg and Yoshi Island hacking to become any more mainstream within the ROM hacking community, we'd need more people talking about it and trying to make more things happen with it. Isn't that what this thread is designed for?

That's what have been done since Golden Egg is a thing (around 2010-2011) and it never capitalized. Compared to YI for example, SMW hacking has a lot of advantages, such as: constantly updating tool (Lunar Magic and third parties), expandible and versatile ROM, among others. Golden Egg technically is a beta program (ver 0.005) without almost no chances of getting it updated, and the Yoshi's Island ROM is not versatile at all. You can't do more with what you have, this is it.

I decided to start a YI hack, but I've been told that GE contains the bug of overwritting levels with one another. Is that still the case? What possibilities are available to avoid that (e.g. transferring levels created with GE to a new, fresh rom. Would that work)?

Or is EggVine still the editor to go?
Thanks in advance for your reply!
GE is the current standard but because romi, its developer, is gone and no source of it exists, a lot of GE bugs aren't fixed. There are plans of a new YI editor, though.
Yes, that does happen, though I've never experimented it (I have never started to "do" a hack, but I've edited several levels in a single rom for testing). Not sure how common it is, but I guess the more you edit, the more possible is to happen.
I'd not promise anything, but if your hack is gonna be short, you shouldn't have problems (though I'd personally suggest to backup your rom constantly). And yeah, you can transfer your levels from one rom to another, but not with GE, with Level Tool (as far as I know, this tool does better the job of relocating level pointers and stuff).

You are welcome to try EggVine I guess, but believe me, it's terribly awful to work with it, and GE even being practically a beta, is superior in almost every aspect.

I tried EggVine 10 years ago, hated it for being way to uncomfortable and never touched it again. I would love to use GE, but don't want it to override my finished levels (especially when the hack is in an advanced stage). That's why I came up with the idea to transfer every level to a fresh rom after completion.

The workflow would be something like this:

1) EggVine: Check the max. Bytes available per Level
2) GoldenEgg: Create the level till completion
3) EggVine: Verify I did not exceed the level size available
4) Level Tool: Transfer the levels to a fresh rom
5) Repeat step 1-4.

Are there more infos available, any progress known?

Thanks for your answers, guys!

Yoshi's Adventure I (12.2%)
Sounds like a reasonable process to me, but remember to test it before to prove it works. I'm almost sure GE and EggVine are compatible between them, but there's a posibility they have different hijacks that could conflict (in the worst case you'll need to export/import the levels manually before checking their bytes).

I didn't remember EggVine checks the max bytes per level, shame GE doesn't have them.

Also the new editor is just a future plan, still nothing done.

I have 2 questions if someone could help me real quick
Hello!, so I'm making my first yi rom hack and I came with a lot of problems! the first one is that some sprites will be glitched like koopa's and flowers!. my second one is how do I go to place's that are inside a pipe's? If someone can help me with this that will help me a lot!#smw{:TUP:}
The first issue can be explained that Yoshi's Island makes use of sprite sets since the SNES hold so much sprite graphics until it runs out of space. Unfortunately, there are no visuals to display in Golden Egg so you have to rely on external documents. There is a spriteset editor somewhere (including visuals) but I haven't got a link to it.
The second question has got multiple interpretations: Do you mean you want to place enterable pipes or switch between rooms in Golden Egg? The former just requires placing an enterable pipe and a screen exit, the latter simply requires you to click on the pointing hand icon on the toolbar where you can enter the level number of the sublevel (unless it's in the same room in which case you just look around in the rooms).
