Would I be able to submit a hack of the NES version of SMW to the hacks section?

And yes, I can edit the levels. Not the overworld or title screen or music or palettes, but the levels and graphics, sure!

You couldn't even if you tried - the site requires SMW hack submissions to contain a BPS file that can be patched to SMW. You could make a thread about it in the Miscellaneous ROM Hacking forum though, or present it at the next C3 (which will be held in January 2019).

But it's Super Mario World. It isn't Bubble Bobble. It isn't Super Mario 3D Land. It's Super Mario World. Just on the NES.

No, that is not Super Mario World. It's a homebrew ROM that steals a lot of levels/graphics/etc, and the name, from the real Super Mario World.

That's like saying the port of Sonic 1 to SEGA CD isn't a Sonic game. But there's no point in arguing. Clearly nobody's gonna budge. Even though it is technically SMW.

It is a Sonic game, but it's not the original Sonic 1.

The site's BPS checker only checks against the SNES US SMW ROM. Anything else and it'll throw an error.

Well, that's a shame. Maybe if enough people get into hacking the NES version, then we can add a section for that game.

That game was fun but its not gonna catch on in the hacking community. The standalone version isnt even complete, only the multicart version is any good and it still suffers from nes limitations. Fun as a novelty. If you like bootleg Mario games try Kart Fighter or Somari as well.
