basement: 4/10
Good sampling, but not much going on except a loop. ;/

mole: 7.5/10
A lot going on, maybe this theme shows how absurd or crazy the situation is. I think the problem is that the other channels matched the volume of the main melody which threw off my focus.

sky: 9.3/10
I like this. Quite Street Fighter-esque. I like the rave theme and the percussion is really good too!

stages46: 6.6/10
The sampling is a little strange for the Distortion Guitar, but I like the premise. 6:17 in the YouTube version sort of threw me off as well. I felt like that part should've been more enhanced like the following 4-beat. 6:54-7:00 was also a little strange for me. It's like I was just waiting for the main melody to kick in.

thewindcanbestill: 9.2/10
Very soothing and calming. Very atmospheric and the echo really helps with that as well.

viridian: 8.5/10
gr8 elevator music. When the octaves go high, it's a bit strange.

wintervacation: 7.3/10
Man, the concept, the main instrument, and the twinkle effect sounds amazing and atmospheric. However, the percussion doesn't really do it for me. It's a bit incompatible, would've scored higher otherwise...

Rating 1 only because the vote scale is from 1 to 10. Would prefer Super Mario 64 endless stairs theme. Actually, you know what, make a port of Super Mario 64 endless stairs theme, and I will rate it 10. Just to be clear, don't do that, it's still a pretty bad strategy, because others would rate it like 2 out of 10, but hey.

mole: 7/10
Accurate.

sky: 8/10
Nice to see more Battle Garegga ports.

stages46: 6/10
Starts a bit weird, I feel like. It gets better however.

thewindcanbestill: 8/10
Pretty impressive for SMW samples. Rather boring track, however.

viridian: 8/10
Really great use of Super Mario World samples.

wintervacation: 8/10
I like it, but I also dislike it. I think SMW instruments don't really work for this track.
wintervacation: 9.9/10
cool pitch modulation
stages46: 8.5/10
cool echo
mole: 8.1/10
cool gain
sky: 8/10
I don't really like how the @0 sounds, still cool
viridian: 7/10
relaxing song, but kinda simple, and not a fan of how the the low @1s mix. cool nonetheless
thewindcanbestill: 6/10
this sounds cool, literally, like, cold. I don't like how the echo sounds though
basement: 2/10
not cool
basement: 1/10
it got annoying after a while
mole: 7/10
Sometimes it sounds good, but some of it is kind of nonsensical
sky: 9/10
not a fan of the static-y instrument, but the rest is nice
stages46: 7.5/10
The volume gets quieter and quieter. (The song also gets better and better)
thewindcanbestill: 8.5/10
It's a little boring but also an impressive port
viridian: 8/10
solid
wintervacation: 10/10
good job
basement: 1/10
banger

mole: 10/10
Pretty ballsy to port such a busy and hard to follow song for this - personally, I like it a lot. Really impressed by all the attention to detail.

sky: 6/10
Sounds nice, but the percussion is a tad intrusive, especially the crash cymbal which just sounds like momentary white noise. Also, there are a bunch of wrong notes in the second part.

stages46: 8/10
Makes kind of a bad first impression, but gets better later on. Really like the way the looped @9 chords sounds (be it cheating or not).

thewindcanbestill: 7/10
At the start it doesn't sound like it's using SMW samples at all which is cool. Not super fond of the song itself - feels like it's constantly building up to something but it never comes.

viridian: 9/10
Just nice, polished, and relaxing. Not much else to say.

wintervacation: 8/10
Nice lead. Song isn't quite my cup of tea but I can tell a lot of care was put into it.
I'm voting solely because of the stages46 entry.

Basement.spc: 3/10
So accurate it's a nightmare, was actually expecting it to be a port of RE:DC's fart basement

mole: 7/10
Well done, a bit erratic but it's a great port

Sky: 9/10
This is out of personal preference, but I think you did a great job. I'd follow what other people recommended you should work on for the port if you decide to release it.

Stage46: 8/10
It sounds a tad slower to me than the PAL version, which is already at 50 Hz. The intro kinda drops the ball on setting up the strong vibe of the song, but all in all the rest of the port was great bar some minor design choices. I guess that is what happens when you port from SEGA to SNES. Some of the wavish sounds were weaker than I expected them to be. All in all I'm sure Follin would approve.

thewindcanbestill: it's nice/10
Not a fan but sounds pleasant enough (Would be great for Kaizo levels)

viridian: Fantastic/10
The flute(?) could be better

wintervacation: Solid(8)/10
Sounds like an anime theme
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
basement: 3/10 - Has potential, but in its current state it really doesn't sound that good.

mole: 9/10 - Cool melody, I can see this working great in some kind of boss battle. Taking off 1 point though because without any context parts of it sound kind a bit odd.

sky: 10/10 - Battle Garegga FTW. Sounds just as good as the original in my opinion.

stages46: 8/10 - I disagree with the others, I think the opening is just fine. It was actually a few of the later sections in the middle that I thought got a little repetitive, but that's just me.

thewindcanbestill: 9.9/10 - I'm always a sucker for calm/relaxing music. I do have to agree with Lazy that I just can't shake the feeling of some kind of build-up taking place throughout the song without any definitive conclusion, but it's faithful to the original (from Stardew Valley, for those curious) so I can't take off too much for that.

viridian: 10/10 - Nice and chill. Is this a port or an original? For some reason it reminds me of the World 3 music from SMB3, stylistically anyway.

wintervacation: 10/10 - Fantastic song, I can see this working perfectly in both platformers and SNES-era RPGs, so that alone is impressive. Actually if this is from an RPG then I want to play it right now.

ロックマン! (きもい)
Not really familiar with this stuff, which is probably why I didn't participate... I'd have no clue what to port lol

adon: 8/10
I like the samples here, they're nice and crisp. The song sounds good too.

Dragon Saber: 8.5/10
Whoa, this sounds like it's mostly unsampled but it's really cool!

fightingthunder: 6.8/10
I think it could use more stereo panning and more interesting sample choice. It kinda sounds bland to me, but it's not terrible or anything like that.

flaptowardsthehope: 6/10
It's not bad, but it sounds kinda muddy in the bass and too bright in the highs. The organ sounds like it should be an octave higher in some spots and the power guitars don't sit right with my ears.

kaiko: 6.7/10
Musically it sounds cool if not repetitive but the bell lead thing is fatiguing after a while.

rough: 7.2/10
Haven't checked what the original sounds like, but it sounds like you were trying to emulate something. I like the different sample choices, they just come together in a weird way for me.

stage9: 7.1/10
Kinda has a low fi edge to it which I can't tell if it's meant to be there, or just part of squeezing stuff into the SPC. There are parts of this I really like, my favorite has to be those cool brass stabs and falls.
Note to self: do a port with brass ensembles in it; I haven't done one yet.

Overall I think the stuff was really good this round but maybe that's only because I don't recognize any of the songs. If you know something, you tend to be more critical of other versions lol
Make more of less, that way you won't make less of more!
adon: 7/10
honestly im not digging the intro but the rest of it is pretty solid

Dragon Saber: 8/10
some pretty cool instrumentation choices (especially those marimba/piano hybrid things) and some pretty good source material. i dig it

fightingthunder: 7/10
i ain't jivin' with it, i think the biggest thing is the low-quality samples, makes it sounds like an early genesis/90s arcade game track

flaptowardsthehope: 7.5/10
i like it

kaiko: 5/10
uh

rough: 7.5/10
i like it, feels like it's always going somewhere melodically, harmonically, and instrumentally. i also get some lowkey mario kart vibes once it really picks up

stage9: 7/10
weak instrumentation, the biggest issue being the lead, which is a shame because the song, the port itself and the balancing is pretty great. the instrumentation is really the only flaw but it's pretty significant and takes away a lot of the edge this could have
adon: 9/10
I really like this one, sounds like it could be in an X game, I know that's just the way the original sounded, but with the limitations it really feel like a song if X4 was released in a 16-bit console too.
It's really good considering the fact the original was an arcade game, this is way better sounding and more faithful than the version in the actual port of SFZ2 for the SNES.

Dragon Saber: 5/10
It has some nice moments, but overall it's just kind of boring.

fightingthunder: 6/10
Pretty cool, though some of the instruments I feel like are not the best choice.

flaptowardsthehope: 6/10
It's pretty nice, though some parts feel a little weird sounding due to the instruments feeling a bit unclean.

kaiko: 5/10
It's good, the instruments are nice, but it's just too short and gets repetitive really quickly. Sounds like a cutscene for some panic moment in whatever game, but still, as a track itself, it's too repetitive.

rough: 7/10
Really good! The song overall sounds like something out of Rockman & Forte, and I honestly like it, it has a relaxing feeling, but it's also pretty varied with the melodies. Well, the composition is nice overall, but... some parts sound really off-key, I don't if that's just the way the instruments sound, but it really is noticeable when it happens and it almost kills the song in those moments.
But with some improvements, this could be the best one here.

stage9: 10/10
Well, this is extremely faithful to the original.
The instruments are great and sound really clean, I can't notice much difference from the original and that's impressive.
I have no problem giving this such a high score, because it succeeds perfectly at doing what's trying to do.
It's an amazing port.

Never got to judge one of these, so I might as well make this my first after years on this site. :)

adon: 7.5/10
A real Mega Man X vibe with this one. Not bad, however, could use some reverb in the guitars to give it some more impact. Also, the guitar's starting notes seemed a bit off at the beginning. Perhaps it was the tone?

Dragon Saber: 8/10
Love the instruments in this one. I was tapping my feet instantly to the beat. Definitely sounds like something that could be used with a space race or something of that nature.

fightingthunder: 6/10
It has a nice rhythm going for it, though the samples kind of kill it for me. They just don't stick out to me and don't have that impact that would make it suitable for the type of tone you're going for.

flaptowardsthehope: 5/10
This one just didn't really click with me. You sound like you have something going here, but the rhythm just sounded generic to me. The instruments also don't sound right in some areas, like they don't have the right octaves and what not. I don't know, I wasn't a huge fan.

kaiko: 5/10
I was a bit disappointed with this one. While it sounds confident, the rhythm is just repetitive. The intro got me a little excited, as I thought it was going to go somewhere a little dark, but it turned to something I wasn't expecting and I thought didn't fit with the intro. A shame, really, because if it wasn't repetitive, there could have been something pretty nice here.

rough: 9/10
Although the intro was bit slow for me, the rest of the song was relaxing. It gave me some Mario Kart vibes and the instruments chosen were used pretty well. I love it when the SMW samples are used in conjunction with the custom samples. My favorite part begins at 1:16. Sounds so harmonic. Definitely my favorite piece of the bunch.

stage9: 6.5/10
I see what was going on here with this port, and I admire what was done, though the instruments are my biggest complaint. They just don't seem to fit with this song in my opinion. I did find it catchy and it could be used for some beach level, I just don't think the instruments were necessary with this song.
Click here to enter the world of mediocre!
adon: 7/10 It's a great song, the guitars are hard.
Dragon Saber: 4.5/10 Could be better. It shouldn't be that long because it's repetitive.
fightingthunder: 7.5/10 It sounds good, it's an unusual music theme.
flaptowardsthehope: 6/10 The music is okay.
kaiko: 5/10 Same, but repeatitive.
rough: 7.5/10 It's done with samples. It sounds great!
stage9: 9/10 This is my favorite from all of them. It had good instrument and would
fit in good Place. 👍
adon: 8.5/10
Really cool song! I kind of like the melodramatic tone it has throughout, and sample choices are very good too, I like how you used the second lead guitar channel, working as both a soft chorus effect and a second voice when needed. Sometimes the song sounds like it should hit harder than it does, but it's not a big deal.

Dragon Saber: 8/10
Amazing work with everything here. Everything sounds good, and custom and vanilla samples sound very well with each other. I like how the noise crash was used here; many times it sounds very weird and here it was pulled off pretty well. I honestly don't really have much to add except I like the song, but don't particularly love it; I think adon gets my attention more easily in that regard.

fightingthunder: 6.8/10
There are some odd instrument choices here and there, and the song sounds like it could've benefited from $F4 $02 to sound more smoothly. Song itself is pretty interesting though, which elevates the port a little further past its few mistakes. It's not very particularly ambitious, though.

flaptowardsthehope: 6.5/10
Good song, a little turned off by its mixing. Feels like it's missing more punch on the low frequencies as it feels kind of empty even when there's a clear bassline. Also, inconsistent quality among the samples used also kind of create this weird clash; for instance, the vibraphone and toms are superb, while the distorted guitars sound plain terrible. Seems like this could have had serious potential.

kaiko: 5/10
What can I even say, at first this sounds incredibly promising and then a few seconds later you realise it's stuck in an infinite 10 second loop. dafuq dude, I really wanted to hear where this went :(

rough: 8.8/10
IMO a lot of samples here are just really... not great. I think some of them are detuned too. It sort of takes me out of the song sometimes because it's a really interesting one! It's also very good quality-wise, 0:52+ sounds especially well done to me (that electric piano glissando at 1:01 does things to me). I just really really really wish it used better synths, because otherwise everything is so good. so good, it could've easily gotten 9.5+ for me otherwise.

stage9: 6.5/10
Is my ear deceiving me or are some samples a little bit detuned? That aside, I didn't particularly care for this version of slash man except for that cool salsa part near the end. Well, the entire song sounds like it was going for a salsa vibe after hearing that part which kind of made me like it more, but the samples here didn't quite work that well for that purpose except for the piano part imo. Also, I feel it sounds a little thin, same problem as flaptowardsthehope (bass).

why is suddenly samples the main thing i'm commenting? that was completely unintentional
