After 9 months of not finishing this, it was time to finish this.
The 1st Old-School Level Design Contest

DOWNLOAD

Description
This is the compilation for our first ever old-school level design contest. The objective of the Old-School Level Design Contest (OLDC) was to bring back the original "vanilla" term to the table after many users showed a disagreement in the modified VLDC ruleset. As such, the levels submitted to this contest feature nothing more than a plain, simple level: stuff ranking from custom music to palettes was ruled out, as was behavior which would be considered "unintended". It features 83 submissions as well as 4 switch palaces and 3 judge levels, totaling at 90 levels with 113 exits.

Outside of the levels, few custom resources were used, as they allow for a more complete experience. Full list:
- Custom counter break (Erik)
- An overworld indicator which tracks exits, yoshi coins and moons (based on WYE's and Minimay's patch, though most rewritten by Erik)
- Extended Overworld Level Names (Alcaro, Smallhacker)
- Autosave (Alcaro)
- Patch for the secret in Yoshi's house (Erik)
- Minor graphic and palette edits
I found a place in "Under the Bridge" to get infinite 1-ups.

I'm clever. :D

Think I found a bug in Mount Meato.

Unless I'm missing something, it appears that both possible routes in the second half trigger the Secret Exit, as only the key symbol filled in upon completing both paths.

In "So Safe, It's Boring" level, there's a screat goal point, but if you do a shell a high speed, after pressing a ? goal, press switch, and get yoshi and jump and shell, crashes with yoshi, and hit secret goal point before fades out.

I confirm this : both exits trigger the key symbol in level metadata. Is there a way of fixing this without losing all previous save ? Indeed, I managed to find all stuff until this level (currently 75% of the game), and so I planned to do a true 100% as I love this way of keeping a clear trace of exits, secret exits, moon and Yoshi Coins !

By the way, a big thank to all team for this game, your work is awesome ! And yeah, it would be perfect if a simple mean of fixing this little bug would exists, for completationists like us :)

Thank you again, I am enjoying this game so much !
I will try and fix this later today or tomorrow. I think I know where this issue stems from, but I have yet to make sure.

I will also try to find a way to fix the SRAM in case the update breaks them (which I doubt will happen but still)
Thank you very much for taking a look at this Erik #tb{:j}
I played every level and I confirm that this hack is awesome. There are plenty of great ideas and wonderful graphics. The difficulty range is varying from easy to very hard (playing without savestates). You put all levels inside a very nice overworld, every level is in place ! The auto save feature is grealtly appreciated as some levels are very hard.

Indeed, I needed about 50 lives for completing the Yoshi Coins quest for a few levels, as you have to get all them in a raw, so without the help of midway point (it is possible to save Yoshi Coins on midway point but this is not the point, as this hack is intended to stay as vanilla as possible).

As for now, I got 112 exits at title screen, I think this is due to the little bug in Mont Meato ? I would like to leave a first feedback too :

- The only level I couldn't do the Yoshi Coin quest is Limbo. It is too hard for me but I think I'll eventually give it another try and find some strats.

- As for the moon in Mont Meato : I have not found the way to get it yet, I am still investigating.

- The level metadata of Dolphin Paradise does not include the Yoshi Coin quest but there is one (taking right after midpoint, to "the paradise")

- I think I saw one or two levels with moons that were present but not reported in the level metadata, yet I don't remember which ones... I will investigate and tell you the name of these levels if I can.

Thank you for making this game remembering my childhood #tb{:j}
I have pushed a new update, 1.1, to the section. Thanks for your patience and bug reports.

You're welcome, thank you for taking the time of fixing this and posting this update !

Does this update preserves the SRAM, or on the contrary applying the new patch would reset it ?
It should work. I'd replay the affected levels though, just in case, to avoid weird stuff.
I've been gone for awhile, and I see this contest happen? I'm outraged! I would have wiped the floor on my competition! :P

Loved how it was all compiled. Definitely a great set of levels. Hopefully I'll compete next time. It would be a lot of fun!

wow. so that's how you get the secret goal post without dying.

I probably like to see a video on how this happens.
found another bug: the Yoshi coin status in all levels are "not" remembered when loading the 2nd game save slot (Mario B) after saving the game there [possible "SRAM" bug]. only the Mario B game save slot has this problem but the other two game save slots the Yoshi coins status is retained
