Hello thread visitor. I'm RussianMan and today i show off my main project,that got restarted... again:
Bowser's plan Z

Story: Bowser found the 'plan book' and discover that all his plans about kidnaping princess. Only one letter is free for plan. Time for plan Z!

This hack has no OW
But what this hack has?
Various custom graphics, musics, sprites, blocks and more!

World 1: grass-themed. This world easy and short. Let's see...

is grass maze. Gimmick is collect three dragon coins to finish the level.

Second world will be a beach themed and have totally 6 (or 5) levels.

NOTE:
I didn't really cancelled this, I just don't want to work on this version. Maybe I'll redo everything again (4th 3rd time!?), but not for now.


There is a humongous graphics clash. Variety is good, but not when you have SMB3, Yoshi's Island, SMW, and SMB2 graphics. It's just not good; you want to stick to a style and keep it. The SMB3 goal is kinda horrid; the palette is really weird and it doesn't look the same. There isn't even that black background, but that's optional. In the second level there, the palette of those SMB3-hill-looking things are pretty crappy, you'll definitely wanna change those. If your palette row 5 is still that green palette, change it to that probably. The grass maze-- oh, God, those palettes... I would change that. The "collect all Dragon Coins" gimmick is pretty neat, but nothing too special. Again, the graphics clash. It's pretty profound through the whole hack, but there... JFC. Also, just saying, but when you release this hack, that level is gonna be the easiest because you literally spoiled the location of every Dragon Coin. Also, 1-4... The graphics clash isn't as bad, but it's still there, nonetheless, and forcing the player to take a hit is frowned upon.


That's my criticism that I advise you to consider applying. I see a lot of potential in this hack, and you just need to unleash it. Good luck with your hack, I hope it gets somewhere.

First world is easiest one. Also, I not spoiled every single door that lead to the dragon coins.

I'll try to fix all graphics clashes, but not sure how i can do that.

Hm... Try to experiment with the palettes to make them look better, maybe switch the palette they use? Also, for the graphics clashes, the best way to avoid it is either 1) Making your own graphics or 2) Using roughly the same style of graphics throughout the whole hack, unless that's the point or something. The Z is not that bad, it just looks weird how the Z on the top right is a ramp where the bottom left is a blocky corner. Other than that, nice job.

This world introduce new enemy: Crab!
EDIT: This crabs are unstompable and stay on ledges.



This is bonus area. If you got Raccoon leaf from previous level, you can find some secrets. This room has SMB 3 stationary p-switch.



2-3

This level is unfinished.



Gimmick: Use L/R to dash. Dash can be used to break/activate some blocks.



This block has a coin inside. Just dash into this block.



This blocks shatters if you dash.



I broke those blocks. Now i can continue.

I think, i'll change background in the 2-3 to the... nothing.
Seriously, only this hills background can be used with those palettes.
Edit: I forgot to mention that those dash blocks created by myself.

My thoughts on this so far:

The level design seems a bit plain at certain points, but making enough levels should give you new ideas to improve, I think you should keep it up and redesign some parts that feel boring for you later.

The idea of the speed breaking blocks is somewhat original and maybe it could result in some nice puzzles #smw{:TUP:}

Also it is nice to see people drawing it's own graphics, I started drawing things like these, too.

Current project: working on a personal website and a portfolio.

Well, world 2 is finished, but some parts will be redesigned. Now I'm going to show levels 2-5 and 2-6.

This level is smb 1 like fish dodging level. Nothing special.

What mean this hill?



This door is Brutal Mario like door, that can be entered after you pass a checkpoint. Also this is first level, were checkpoint appears.



This is pyramid under the sand! In this screenshot I show how i drew reset block. I added some cracks in those blocks to make it looks like an ancient pyramid. This levl has two puzzles inside and the boss.



This leaf block can be broken by using raccoon Mario's tail.



This is first time i use exanimation ever.





This block removes all your power-ups.


This arrows will be replaced. This is actually tile 1E6.



This block pass spring through.

This is begin of the level and 'puff!' Poison mushroom. As you can see this is Lost levels themed level.



This level uses Classic koopas, so, be careful!

I have been lurking on this thread for a while, so...
But, anyways I've noticed that the graphics seem to clash often.
A prime example of this is one you just posted. Having an 8-bit foreground with a 16-bit background, and 16-bit sprites don't mesh together well. Not to mention the amount of cutoff I saw in your post.

Fix those, and it should be fine.

First part is Jump'n running part (As always),but second part...











...has a gimmick similar to one in JUMP ,in bowser's castle, room with flame, that always float underneath player. There is similar situation: Beezo that fly underneath player. You can't fall in the pit, unless you reach...









...This point. You need break this block to progress... and kill this beezo!



This is next part of this half.



There some other beezos, that you need to avoid!



and mini-boss! (This is actually a stompable birdo, because I can't find real birdo boss!)

Forest world 4 works fine, and the four seasons will be in world 5.

And yes, Hammer bro looks not so good with SMB 3 power-ups palette (What the irony). Maybe GreenHammerBros will look better.
