BRR Archive and Recommendations

As you may know, the BRR section wasn't getting enough attention since its inception, so there is pretty much no need to keep it around anymore, which is why I'm making this thread.

In here I'll be linking all the samples hosted in the section for archiving purposes, however, you can feel free to submit your own samples here, and I'll try to update this post as soon as possible if they don't break any rules. Also, if you need any sample recommendation, you can post it here as well, as we're going to merge both threads to not clutter the subforum.

The rules for submitting samples are going to be pretty much the same as the BRR Section:
  1. Include an SPC where you can hear the sample(s) and a .txt of said SPC.
    • a !patterns.txt file would be appreciated, but it's not required.
  2. Name the BRR files after the instrument they represent.
  3. Tune the samples correctly. For the percussion samples, try to make them play at o4c.

Alright, with that out of the way, I'll be linking the samples from the BRR Section:

I will do the Mega Man 7 samples and I will submit them soon. But I don't know this one sample name is the one you hear in Burst Man's Stage, the ones in channel 4 and 5.
Hmm...
Because I nearly make sample whenever I make music, I may not submit BRRs.

RIP BRR Section

I also want to apologize for promising some brrs and not doing them. Hopefully this thread will get some attention.
Are you guys interested in Dragon Quest SNES series sample rips?

I am currently tuning and naming them.
Umihara Kawase (Full Set) (Average size: 0x0544)

Ripped from a catchy SNES game with nice music and instructions.

Some SFX samples are not ripped since it's not really useful for music porting and SMW Hacking.
What do you guys have for piano samples? I know I've asked before, but even after looking through and testing some, I still cannot for the life of me find a piano that covers the octave range I want with no more than 3 different samples and without taking up a ton of ARAM space.

I don't think that's possible. Pianos have to be big, otherwise they sound really bad. The smallest ones I know that still sound relatively good are from Tales of Phantasia/Star Ocean, but I think they don't cover an entire octave (haven't checked in a while).

Whenever I have to use pianos I just take them from here.
The one from Tales of Phantasia is pretty good, but it's only for high octaves, and I'm not sure what its range is. So I can't use piano in any compositions? Darn.

How about worldpeace's sample set?
It is so good, I think.

Well, I definitely wouldn't use 8 samples totaling 0x8C05 bytes for one instrument, and I don't know if they'd still work if I just used 2 or 3 of them. (I also don't like how the tuning for each of them needs to be adjusted with h and $EE instead of just using different tuning in the instrument definition, but I could probably fix that.)

Does anyone know of a crash cymbal that would sound good with the vanilla samples? The only one I can think of is the FF4 one which will definitely not work.
I use the one from Super Mario RPG. It's sample 12 in this (coincidentally enough, an arrangement of a track from FF4), with ADSR and tuning $FF $F3 $00 $03 $D4 (at o4c). Alternatively, you could use noise to simulate a crash cymbal, but I couldn't tell you the exact settings for that.

What do you think
Thanks! Both are good suggestions. I like tcdw's a little more since it's less muddy sounding. It's larger but oh well, it's the only sample I need. A noise one was something I considering, but I really dislike how the SNES noise generator sounds lol.
Well, what would you guys suggest about good choir samples? Tbh, I have been trying to use the one from SD3 and the one from FF6 (specifically, the Phantom Forest choir), but they havent been quite working with my remixes. Maybe its because they need echo/reverb? I dunno tbh.

Would the one from Secret of Mana work? ADSR and tuning are $FF $E0 $00 $08 $0D.

Well, I just tested it, and it sounds great! Now to see if I can make this work by remaking a orchestral port of mine... XD

Well, now I wanna know about some distortion guitar and harp samples I could use for a port of Fighting of the Spirit (the SNES original), since I dont think the X1-X3 and FFVI samples I have are gonna be enough.

If you're porting SNES music with samples, why not just get the samples from the original game?
