Is there a mirror of that site for when it keeps going down?

Heck, if you want better hosting, I can always help with that. I'm already asking carol about whether I could host his own site on a more reliable domain.

XREA server sometimes will block not Japanese domain. it's racist.
and mirror site is not exist. sorry for inconvenience.

Wait, really? That seems ridiculous if you ask me. Normal hosting companies don't give a damn where their users are from.

Why does anyone use such a company given that sort of service? It's not too hard to find decent quality free hosting that doesn't block users outside of Japan. Heck, why not get a cheap shared hosting account somewhere and stick the IPS files and bulletin board system on that?

I wouldn't exactly recommend them, but for really cheap, even something like Dreamhost or Hostgator would probably work here, for a few dollars a month. Pay a bit more, and something like MDD Hosting or Siteground would pretty much never go down for a site like this.

You'd obviously need to register a .jp domain via a Japanese registrar, but you don't need to host the actual site with one.

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.

So, played Super SIG World 33 or whatever. It was more interesting than the ones before, probably because after thirty games, SIG needed to find some more interesting level ideas. There was some nice custom music too, as well as a few fairly interesting bonus area concepts (like the minimalistic but really cool looking special world).

That said, it had a few issues:

In one level, the flashing ground was just a nightmare. Sorry, but it was so faint and visible for so short a time period that it was an utter pain in the ass to get through without falling in a pit or taking an unfair hit. Fact you could barely see the Bowser statues there before their laser attack was even worse.

The Star World's auto scroll level was horrendous. Well, it looked nice and some interesting ideas were present, but dear god it just dragged on and on. Pro tip: An auto scrolling level with FOUR sections each the length of a SMB 3 level or two is a horrible idea. It was also slow as hell. Seriously.

The game also made me annoyed at a few 'Japanese ROM hack cliches'. Namely:

1. The 'semi vanilla' style. Why is almost every Japanese hack in this style? Like, Super Mario World mixed with SMB 3, Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country? Is there a dislike for fully chocolate style hacks over there? Cause the only ones I remember which avoided this were Brutal Mario, Super Mario LD and Super Mario Fantasy.

2. The vanilla Super Mario World bosses, yet again. Seriously, the sprites section here has existed for about a decade now. You use it for all your normal levels and gimmicks.

So why not replace the damn Koopalings already? People have already fought them to death in the SMW style, and the SIG World series hasn't bothered to replace them for 33 games in a row. It can't be that hard to find seven decent boss sprites, can it?

God, it makes me want to see a VIP game where no vanilla levels are allowed at all. To see all the interesting, random ideas the Japanese ROM hacking community would come up with if 'standard SMW style level' wasn't a thing this time around...

Holy crap, that's more sequels than Land Before Time, Saw, FnaF, and Jaws combined. Does the author care more about quantity than about quality?

Well he does recycle his ideas a lot. Basically, everything outside of the bonus world basically uses the same resources as every other game in the series, often down to the same Koopaling fight arrangements, the same level themes, the same concepts, etc. He'll introduce a new idea in one game, then basically use it in at least one level in the next four or so games.

Basically, he gets them done so quickly because a lot of the level design and concepts are endlessly recycled, and they mostly use the same set of resources.

Where can I find ASPE Mario? Also, none of the downloads on DaiGaiDai's website work for me. Does anyone have a backup of his hacks?

This is his main channel, but no recent videos. The last one was 5 months ago.
And "Mario Fantasy"? it's unfinished?
Been playing ASPE Mario. Pretty hard hack, but its really fun too. I think its the first Japanese hack I've seen that has good level design and great ASM.

Romi, the author of Mario Fantasy, doesn't work on this hack since 2007, I PM'd him somewhere around 2010 and he said the hack is officialy cancelled.
