Meirdent's C3 Junk: Rain and Down Below

Demo

Rain
Rain is a little game I started working on after making Shiru.
The premise of the game is to collect coins that rain down from the sky. The player must collect the coins in their bucket, touching a coin any other way will cause the player to trip and lose a coin.

Down Below
Down Below is a game I've been working for a few months now. I'm making it as sort of a "base engine" for another game that I am planning on making.
Down Below will most likely not be released anytime soon.

I'm releasing some of my failed/unfinished SMW hacks to make up for Rain being delayed.

So I've just played a few of your hacks, and I really like your graphics. Same goes for Rain, it's really nice looking. Good job.
My favorite thing here is either Meirdent's Adventure (2014) or Rain. They both have very nice ideas and well-thought design.
I hope to see them finished one day.
This might sound like the most minor thing, but I like the plaid UI design in Down Below. Your visual design work in general has this pleasant feeling not unlike Cave Story, which I see must be one of your inspirations based on the Shiru video.

Have you considered adding different coin types or speeds to Rain, or do you think that would be over-complicating things? It looks like a nice arcade-style game, but maybe a little simplistic in terms of replay value. Just my take on it, though.

Yes. Cave Story, Paper Mario, and SMW2: Yoshi's Island are my biggest inspirations.

I just tried out different coin speeds and it makes Rain a bit more challenging. I like it.
As for different coin types, I do think they would over-complicate things.
Rain is finally finished!

I gave Rain a try, and it's a nice game, but it can be better if you somehow make it so that the coins don't hit the player until after a bit of time after getting up. I fell seven times in a row because they kept falling on me. #ab{;_;}

Alright, I've updated Rain and given the player a small amount of invincibility after they get up.

Anyways, I've got a lot more time to work on Down Below now that I'm finished with Rain.
Right now I'm trying to give the game more atmosphere and make it look less bland.

More Gameplay

I'm going to redo the background, and possibly increase the saturation of the current cave tileset.

EDIT:

I'm unsatisfied with how Rain came out. I feel like it's really rushed and boring.
So, I've started re-making it.

Rain Redux
(Work In Progress)

New features (both planned and implemented):
No character select (The character will be chosen randomly on round start and is only a cosmetic change)
Gems will rain down and count as 5 coins
More colorful and simpler sprites
Different environments (Selected at random when round starts)
Players no longer trip (Instead, their bucket will be knocked out of their hands and must be picked up before they can collect anymore coins)
No more timer. Instead, the player will have health. The player's health decreases every time their bucket is knocked out of their hands. When the player has one more heart left, they will panic and start moving faster. The round ends when the player has no more health.
New music. This time in stereo instead of mono.
